I NEED U
MV AND SONG
First of all, the song is about how the guy is trying to get over a girl. Seems like a typical KPOP song from boybands. It's not entirely what the MV is about, but I find it fantastic that they expressed most teen's problems and pressure they receive in society. Korea has one of the highest suicidal rates and the MV portrays it. From the original version we see the following:
- Rap mon burning the gasoline station. Why? In the mv, Rap mon was shown sucking a lollipop as he waits for another customer to go in the station. BUT, the customers mistreat him. Later at the climax of the MV, he throws a cigarette into the pile of money the customers left. And well.. it may have burned the gas station;
- As for Jin, I'm not quite sure, but according to some fans, he is in a mental hospital. He is shown laying down 6 petals of lilies (which represents 6 other members who have died). From what we can conclude, he is the only one left out of the crew. But his meaning is very vague. I have a theory that he jumps of the window (he is seen opening a window). I'm not quite sure how fans came up with the fact that lilies in a hospital can suck away your oxygen, but it is proven false. It just simply represents the lives of the members.
- Suga is seen in a hotel or his room (not sure but either). He was holding a lighter and lighting it up. Just simply lighting it up. In the climax, he is seen burning himself after he pours gasoline all over his room.
- As for our aegyo rapper J-hope, he is seen in the bathroom, looking at himself. He sadly looks at himself before taking an unhealthy amount of pills in from his cabinet mirror. Later on, he is walking on a bridge and passes out due to drug overdose.
- Jimin was in a bath tub full of water. He stays there for quite a while and on one scene, out of the tub. But shivering. I'm assuming that he may have had hypothermia at that moment because staying in the water for excessive hours is unhealthy. And then at the end, he is back in the tub and sunk under the water, drowning himself.
- For alien V, I think his scenes were very disturbing. At the start of the MV, he is seen outside of an apartment and sitting down. Later on, he comes in to a house and saw a man abusing this woman. In my eyes, it seems like he knew this woman and about the abuse, so he decides he had enough. Well, assuming from the amount of liquor glass in the table, the abuser may have been an alcoholic. Anyways, V breaks the bottle for it to have sharp edges. He then punches the guy, beats him, and stabs him repeatedly. There was A LOT of blood so warning for people who have triggers. He cries and slides down the wall with his bloodied hands. I think he might have gotten arrested for first degree murder (because it is assumed he hated this guy and knew of) and got death penalty. He might have been prison for life with no parole. But for me, this is the most triggering part of the MV.
- Lastly, the golden maknae Jungkook is seen walking around the streets and such. It is stated that he ran away from his home because of personal reasons (i.e family problems). He is caught off guard by his thoughts about his home and bumps in with two shady strangers. They thought Jeongguk was being arrogant and rude so these two strangers beat him up. Then later on, he may have died of a car crash since after getting beating up, he walks in the streets and a car crashes him.
The music video really addresses the problems teenagers in Korea and literally every where. But can we talk about the scenes where BTS was shown together? I think those scenes are when after they all die, they may have found their heaven with each other. Because in the picture with them lying in the grass, thats them in heaven. Peaceful. Plus its in a shape of the lilies Jin put together. OR, this is the part where they all recovered from their dark pasts. In some point of both MV's , I saw J-hope throw away his pills in a bonfire the boys made. So correct me if I'm wrong. I have two definition of this MV: its either they do this all alone by themselves and not recover. Thus the death in heaven because they have wanted to escape the misery they have. The other interpretation is that they got over it themselves. Maybe J hope woke up, Suga escaped the fire, it wasn't rap mon who set the fire, Jimin didn't drown, V only got arrested for a few years, and the car crashing to Jeongguk stopped. I'm more leaning to the first interpretation though, but both are possible.
Overall, these boys showed a lot of improvement and matured from their rookie days. The song is really sad and melodic. Plus the MV is quite an eye opener to problems that many people face including suicide. It is a mixture of disturbance and melancholic days that we have. My overall rate for this group is 9/10. I put one point off because I cry. (I'm kidding I rate it an overall of 10/10).
Moving on to DOPE!
DOPE
MV AND SONG
DOPE is about how hardworking BTS is. In the MV, they dressed as workers with different careers. Suga was a captain, Rap mon is also a cap (?), Jin is a doctor, J hope is a racer, Jimin is a business man, Taehyung is a detective, and holy mother of god.. Jeongguk is a cop. I mean he could arrest me anytime lol. Pretty much everything itself is self explanatory and you could guess the actual meaning. They rap and sing about working hard even though some other people there just go party and do crazy stuff.
I would rate the MV and song an overall of 8.5/10. And some pretzels because I really like Jeongguk in that cop uniform of his.
